FREE Download: Debaser “Back to Work”

Debaser is a group that is part of the Portland hip-hop collective Sandpeople – which continues to impress me with everything they drop. In preparation for Debaser’s upcoming album, the duo has released “Back to Work” for FREE. I had a chance to bump it this weekend, and it’s definitely worth the download. Hells yeah! As a NW native, I have the priviledge of being exposed to some of the freshest and most innovative hip hop crawling out of the underground, and Sandpeople is a prime example. For those not in the know, 5 NW hip hop acts to definitely check out for yourself (Pretty sure they’re all on myspace… lol)

              5. Sandpeople – Honestly, I could fill this list with just their individual members but for the sake of giving others credit we’ll just lump them together. Seriously tho, with a 2 time World Rap Champion/ Scribble Jam champ and a producer who’s worked with Slug and Aesop Rock amongst their ranks, it’s hard to deny their talent…

              4. Sleep of Oldominion – His flows are crazy. His content is undeniable. The only bad part of listening to a Sleep album is that you want to press rewind after every track just to see what you missed…

              3. Pale Soul of Oldominion – This is what REAL street music sounds like. No glorification of false conquests, just thoughtful, powerful rhymes and bangin beats (mostly self produced) 2 classic albums under his belt and one of the best live shows I’ve ever seen.

              2. Bad Habitat – These guys are a little newer on the scene, but their presence is definitely being felt around Portland. They seem to turn up around every corner, and kill it every time I have the chance to see them. High energy, aggressive hiphop with a dash of humor and cynicsm in the mix. I copped their mixtape at a show (glad I did because I haven’t been able to find another copy anywhere!) and it BANGS from start to finish. Definitely a group on the rise and one to watch for…

              1. Blue Scholars – These guys epitomize what NW hip hop is capable of. This is music you actually FEEL. Almost every track they make still has the ability to give me goosebumps even years after the first time I’ve heard it… intelligent, real life music for grown ups that happen to like rap music… teeny boppers beware!
