Dumhi “3 Seats From Heaven” Album Review
November – for some, this month is the beginning of holiday spirit where family, friends and those who have much in common come together to enjoy each other’s company. Simply put, this is the season when we connect with those we relate to.
On Dumhi’s 3 Seats From Heaven, through creative beats and distinctive lyrics, this group of emcees relate well to each other and present an album with much chemistry.
Despite the differences we have as people of different races, backgrounds and beliefs, there is always a common ground present. We all walk under the same sun, moon, stars and sky. For Dumhi, myself and others alike, hip-hop is also our common ground.
Hip-hop is only as strong as the dedicated and talented artists apart of it. Dumhi is one of those groups of emcees who are keeping this music alive by staying true to their direction and respecting each other’s craft.
I was instantly pleased with the production and lyrical delivery on this album. With beats that flow parallel with that of the Beatnuts and Gangstarr, those who consistently bump classic hip-hop from the early to mid-90s will gain much pleasure with this presentation. Stand out tracks include the opener Bump Dat, Purple Aka West 8th St and Two Hands.

Dumhi Bio:
2007 has already been a year of great accomplishment for dumhi productions. In May of this year, dumhi organized the One Leg at a Time tour (OLAAT), a three city micro-tour which featured some of the most exciting artists in independent music. Over the course of the eight-day tour, dumhi, Sankofa (Brooklyn-based rock band), and the Cosmic Funk Allstars (featuring Cee Knowledge of Digable Planets) performed in Brooklyn, Philadelphia, and Baltimore. During the three shows, dumhi was joined by underground heavy hitters such as Tanya Morgan (Loud Minority Music), Spec Boogie (Loosie Music), and L.E.G.A.C.Y. (Justus League/Rawkus 50) as well as many others.
Still riding the momentum of OLAAT, Haj is putting the finishing touches on dumhi’s third independent release in three years. As with previous dumhi releases, Haj handles all of the production on Three Seats, and emcees MashComp, Shameless Plug, and Flud take care of the majority of the vocal duties. Longtime collaborators Vex-Blizzy and John Blake also make appearances as does NJ emcee iLife and Philadelphia soul singer Sabrina Cuie.
