K Banger “Truth Be Told” Album Review
One thing that I have learned since my entrance into this industry is in order to be successful, you must possess talent, a love for what you do, creative consistency, humbleness, but more importantly you must know your purpose for being in the game. Many people create music to simply compete with or to be like other artists instead of creating music because that’s what they love to do. On Truth Be Told, K Banger presents himself with much talent as a lyricist, but I am unsure on his direction, his modesty and if he fully knows his purpose in the game. Â
The first thing I did after receiving K Banger’s EP Truth Be Told was Google him, to hopefully find out more about his history, his presence and his future. After reading his bio, a few lines stood out to me; one being, “I am not the feel-good, conscience, breath-of-fresh-air rapper;” another being, “.[K Banger] chooses to stay his lane in his musical expression – whatever that may be, and whether you like it or not,” and “Nowadays, K Banger is bigger than Hip-Hop;” so I ask, what’s the point? You told us what you aren’t, you told us that you could care less about how your listeners receive your music and lastly, you claim to be bigger than hip-hop; but nothing about where you plan on going with your music.
So what truth is being told on Truth Be Told? Listening deeper into his music, I believe K Banger just wants to live and spit rhymes, without being boxed in and having to meet various expectations. He wants to roam freely between subjects and show the world his strong lyrical ability. Despite the confusion from his bio, I receive K Banger as a great emcee who deserves credit for his ability to put words together. He flows well over the variety of beats and I honestly can’t find a dull moment on this presentation. His best moments are on All I Need; a strong beat with a beautifully chopped sample; on Without Soul, a song where the production reminds me of Pete Rock, and Namebrand, a great showcase of his lyrical ability.
When I listen to music, hip-hop especially, I try to find the artists soul through their presentation; I listen deeper than just the beat to figure out what makes an artist special. K Banger has a talent for words and could easily become the next great of our time as soon as he finds his purpose.
