Ten Best Underground Indie Hip-Hop Albums of 2006

Distrakt - DistraktionsAlright, so I’m a liar. I honestly had the best intentions of picking my ten favorite underground hip-hop albums of 2006. However, I didn’t realize how difficult that would be.

There were so many great underground hip-hop albums released last year that I couldn’t pick just ten. Therefore, this list is best titled “The Fifteen Best Underground Hip-Hop Albums of 2006.”

Check out my selections below:

  1. Distrakt – Distraktions
  2. Intellekt & Dirty Digits – Intellektual Property
  3. Spokinn Movement – 60 Min. Spin Cycle
  4. Storm Davis – Kegstand Poetry for the Recovering Alcoholic
  5. Breakdown – Social Studies
  6. Educated Figures – Educated Figures
  7. brokeNdomer – Do You Copy?
  8. Masai Bey – The Panacea Goldmind
  9. Serge Severe – Walk in My Shoes
  10. Visual – Figured It Out
  11. Scholar – The X-Files
  12. SoberMinded – Points, Thoughts, and Stores
  13. Paradox – Hiatus
  14. Danny! – Charm
  15. Random – The Call

Although ScholarMan’s “Candy Medicine” and Calm’s “Anti-Smiles” were both released in late 2006, I didn’t get around to reviewing them until early 2007. Therefore, they were not included in my 2006 album reviews. Had they been categorized as 2006 instead of 2007 albums, both would have undoubtedly have been among the top five of this list. They will both definitely be in consideration for next year. Peace.

YESYESYES, this is exactly what hip hop heads and the ghettos of America along with and I mean ESPECIALLY with BET needs to know and advertise regardless. Better yet, we need more stuff like this to kick the wack shit off the chart like 50 Cent and “Weezy”. Props.
