SoberMinded “Points, Thoughts, and Stories” Album Review
I ain’t gonna lie, man … never really been a big fan of christian rap. My bad God, but what can I say? It’s not just that christian rappers seem to constantly preach to you, but their music is often corny. However, I have recently come across a couple christian rap groups that are making me feel different … and SoberMinded is one of them.
The two MC/ producers, Offbeat and Noneuclidean, are not only dope lyricists and beat makers, but they are also spitting some major knowledge, ranging from spirituality and philosophy to current events and hip-hop culture, with excellent storytelling and verbal wordplay. And the production is often quick and bumpy, providing a perfect backdrop for the tongue twisting yet clear and well-annunciated vocals.
Easily among the best independent and underground hip-hop releases of the year. It pushes intellectual and moral points while remaining relevant to people of any or every religion. I’d love to take a couple days and write a full review on it, but am way too tied up with all the music we’re getting nowadays. Either way, this is a permanent fixture on my iPod, so I highly recommend checking it out whether or not you’re a fan of christian rap.
