Perhaps had you seen the copy of the dvd which included side-bars about cultural criticism in general, and Sut Jhally's discussion of criticism of popular culture in particular, you would have been less surprised at the "one sided-ness" of the documentary (almost nothing is evenly balanced--it was Hurt's choice to highlight the factors in hip-hop which appear to be most prevalent (i.e., mainstream) AND which appear to have the greatest impact on black masculinity. <ul></ul> I appreciate your thorough discussion of Hurt’s documentary.
