Yes! is definitely tops for me last year (I know I’m late to post here). Troubadour is fun but doesn’t appeal to me with every track – Yes! does. There’s nothing on the album I skip, whereas I could do without “Wavin’ Flag” and “Take a Minute” (on Troubadour).

Just wanted to mention Classified’s decent album Self Explanatory. Another Canadian that’s taking on the rap regime and putting out solid tracks. Not the prettiest or the most insightful, but certainly a welcome romp in light-hearted beats and narrative lyrics. Been around awhile, too, so there’s a nice library to pick through.

i have to agree with theGWH, k’naan has the best album of 09, underground or not. though i really love every track on yes! and keep it on constant rotation, k’naan has made an album that anyone can like, is very complex, unique and can best be described as god damn.

yeah, so I been listening to k-os since he dropped Exit – that is also a must listen ‘heaven only knows’ I have also seen him perform twice. I can recommend seeing him at the Marquee Club in Halifax, NS, if you ever get the chance. Nice review.

I’m from the U.K and have always wondered about moving to Canada, is it recommended?

Yeah, Canada has had a great year, are there any other releases from there except for the two aforementioned?

Yes! is a great album that I, unfortunately, haven’t had the chance of listening to enough.

I’ve just been bumpin’ Joyful Rebellion the past month… great album that I’m still killin’ I don’t know how many years later.

Going to bump Yes! again, great album.

K’naan’s Troubador is the best album of the year this year so far, then k-os’ Yes! Underground Canadian Hip Hop is killin’ this year so far. By the way, I am from Vancouver and pretty damn proud of the Canadian Hip Hop scene.
