Ten Best Hip-Hop Albums of 2006
Although my goal with HipHopLinguistics.com is to give underground and independent hip-hop a forum, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t like a lot of the hip-hop major record labels are putting out these days.
Therefore, I have created the below list of my top ten hip-hop albums of 2006. I’d recommend checking them all out for real representations of hip-hop.
- Jedi Mind Tricks – Servants in Heaven, Kings in Hell
- Lupe Fiasco – Food & Liquor
- KRS-One – Life
- 7L & Esoteric – A New Dope
- The Roots – Game Theory
- Soul Position – Things Go Better with RJ and Al
- Mr. Lif – Mo’ Mega
- The Coup – Pick a Bigger Weapon
- Pigeon John – and the Summertime Pool Party
- M-1 – Confidential
NOTE: Although Juggaknots’ “Use Your Confusion” and Nas’ “Hip Hop is Dead” were both released in late 2006, I didn’t get around to reviewing them until early 2007. Therefore, they were not included in my 2006 album reviews. Had they been categorized as 2006 instead of 2007 albums, both may have been among this top ten. They will both definitely be in consideration for next year. Peace.

some of these albums aren’t even released on a major label, much less anything i’d consider mainstream. just cuz you have a huge following doesnt make you mainstream. mainstream is when your on daily radio rotation and on mtv/bet. when your songs used in car commercials. when soccer moms have your song as ringtones. I dont thinke jedi minds or even krs got any of that goin on. and i think they like it that way.

mainstream is on the radio nation wide and on mtv, you dont see or hear paz, lif, eso or 7L on any of these so you can not claim them as mainstream. get it straight.
