J Dilla & Friends Featured on NBA 2K8 Soundtrack
2K Sports today announced the soundtrack for NBA 2K8, which will feature 23 tracks, including three produced by late producer, J Dilla ( a.k.a. Jay Dee). Common, Talib Kweli, Madlib, and Q-Tip, all of whom had previously worked with J Dilla before his death early last year, contributed vocals for the tracks.
“J Dilla was one of the industry’s greatest talents,” said Q-Tip. “This recording is reflective of his legacy and of the wonderful body of work that he left behind.”
Joining the Dilla collaborations are 20 other selections, which focus heavily on hip-hop but provide a wide range of current and classic offerings.
“For the NBA 2K8 soundtrack, we wanted to produce something diverse that bridges modern hip-hop with its rich heritage in funk and groove,” said Tim Rosa, director of brand and lifestyle marketing at 2K Sports. “In addition to showcasing some of J Dilla’s finest and unreleased cuts with marquee artists like Common, Talib Kweli and Q-Tip, we’ve included a diverse group of artists whose music really captures the spirit of the game.”
