Underground Track of the Week: Homeboy Sandman “Mambo Tail Tale”

Homeboy Sandman

This week’s underground hip-hop track of the week is Homeboy Sandman’s Mambo Tail Tale - one of my many favorites from his spectacular new album “Actual Factual Pterodactyl.” I keep finding myself listening to this song on the train laughing hysterically like a goofball. It is a great story about Sand’s first mambo experience. Click below to listen to the track:

And make sure you follow along with the lyrics after the break. (more…)

Track of the Week: Invizzibl Men “Thin Air”

    Invizzibl Men

This week’s hip-hop track of the week is Thin Air by Invizzibl Men. Thin Air is off the duo’s new album “The Unveiling” - which I though was pretty tight, despite getting lukewarm reviews. Released tracks from the album were solid, including the C-Rayz Walz blessed T-Rex and the banger of the album Jimmy Swagger. Thin Air is a bit of a love story. Click below to listen:

Underground Track of the Week: Random “Granny Smith”

      Random

This week’s underground hip-hop track of the week is Random’s Granny Smith. This track is one of a handful of great lyrical storytelling tracks from Random’s new album “The 8th Day,” which has a review coming soon. Granny Smith tells the story of a young boy who’s favorite teacher helps him through hardships at home, while commenting on domestic battery, flaws in the education system, and the mindstate of young people. Underground Track of the Week: ScholarMan “Everyday Real”

        ScholarMan

This week’s underground hip-hop track of the week is ScholarMan’s Everyday Real (Moment of Truth 2008), which is a great multi-dimensional track from his latest FREE EP, “The Pull Forward EP Vol. 2.” Click below to listen:

And make sure to download the free EP if you haven’t already!

Underground Track of the Week: Kats “Dust Off” Feat. Domer & brokeMC

          Kats, Domer, brokeMC

This week’s underground hip-hop track of the week is Dust Off by local Brooklyn emcees Kats, Domer and brokeMC. Dust Off is the second single off Kats’ upcoming “Almost Fameless Mixtape Vol.1,” which will be released for free download this fall. Click below to listen:

Track of the Week: Ludacris “Politics As Usual”

            Obama & Ludacris

A couple weeks back, Immortal Technique pointed out in an Al Jazeera interview how the media makes Barack Obama go through what he referred to as “Toby Moments,” where they force Obama to publicly denounce his supporters. Well, it is happening again today, as the Obama campaign has criticized Ludacris for the track Politics as Usual off the “Gangsta Grillz: The Preview” mixtape.

After listening to the song, I can’t really figure out why. Maybe because he called Hillary a bitch? Maybe because he called Bush a horrible president? Or maybe because everything he said is true? In any case, in support of Ludacris I have decided to name Politics as Usual this week’s hip-hop track of the week. Click below to listen:

And follow along with the lyrics after the break - just to see how rediculous Obama’s newest “Toby Moment” really is. (more…)

Underground Track of the Week: Metermaids feat. Camp Lo “Turn It Up”

              Metermaids

This week’s underground hip-hop track of the week is Turn It Up by the Metermaids - a local NYC crew that has a tendency to make the crowd move at shows. The track features the legendary Camp Lo and is my favorite song from the Metermaids’ new album “Nightlife,” which has a review coming soon! In the meantime, check out Turn It Up below:

Track of the Week: Core Rhythm “Ronin”

                Core Rhythm

This week’s track of the week is Ronin, the titled track from Core Rhythm’s new album “Ronin.” We also featured a hip-hop quotable from his track 8 am Bluez a couple weeks back, so I’d recommend checking that one out as well. Click below to listen:

Underground Track of the Week: Common Market “Tobacco Road”

                  Common Market

This week’s underground hip-hop track of the week is Tobacco Road, the title track from Seattle-based Common Market’s upcoming album, “Tobacco Road,” which is scheduled to drop September 9, 2008. It’s a real introspective track with heartfelt lyrics and a melodic piano backdrop that defintely has me interested in the upcoming album. Click below to listen:

Underground Track of the Week: Animal Farm “Peace”

                    Animal Farm

This week’s underground hip-hop track of the week is Animal Farm’s Peace, my favorite track of their album “The Unknown.” The track features KRS-One. Click below to listen:
