Just spotted this on Def Jux’ YouTube channel. The Mighty Underdogs are apparently a group composed of Lateef, Gift of Gab, and Headnodic - and this track features MF DOOM.

Aesop Rock “None Shall Pass” Album Review
In my opinion, Aesop Rock has two big challenges that could affect the longevity of his illustrious rap career. The first challenge is copycats. I get a lot of independent stuff in the mail, and a large amount of it was obviously influenced by Aesop Rock. It seems that Aes’ fans, attracted to him because he created a style unlike the repetitive stuff they were tired of, have now become just like the rappers they were running from by making hip-hop that is basically slight variations of Aesop’s sound. And if everybody sounds like you, then you aren’t that special anymore – end of career. (more…)

Danny! “Danny Is Dead” Album Review
What would you do if you won a nationwide MTV rap contest, signed a record deal with one of hip-hop’s most respected and highest quality labels, and had a couple months to kill before beginning work on your soon-to-be-world-famous album? I know what I’d do homie. I’d jump a flight to Hawaii, get me a nice tan, sip Mai Tais on the beach during the day, and spend the evenings entertaining ladies who I would make sure knew I was on my way to becoming a star. Shit, who wouldn’t? (more…)

Mr. Lif “Mo’ Mega” Album Review
Despite the fact that I really liked Mr. Lif’s Mo’ Mega, I’m not going to write a review for it. This album is getting a decent amount of press as it is, and the last thing we all need is another cat saying the same things … (more…)

The Perceptionists “Black Dialogue” Album Review
I must admit that I’m one of those never-satisfied hip-hop fans. If someone puts out a hot album, I can usually find something that it doesn’t do right. Dope flow, but lacking lyrical content. Conscious lyrics, but lacking hot beats. Great production, but nothing being said. I’ve always viewed rap music as somewhat of a triangle, created from three major components: Lyrics, Flow and Production. Hip-hop’s fans measure these components with different weight. (more…)
