UGHH shot the shit with Ill Bill last month, discussing his controversial song White N*gger, as well as the release of his upcoming album “The Hour of Reprisal” – which is scheduled to drop at the end of August.
UGHH caught up with Bisc1 during this year’s A3C Hip-Hop Festival to talk about his many talents, his experiences with Def Jux, and his great new album “When Electric Night Falls.”
This Jean Grae interview was conducted in Australia a couple years back – I guess Jean was out there doing some shows. She talks about beatmaking, the 9th Wonder project, and being an emcee. I didn’t realize she was so funny, man! Check it out.
Sebastien Elkouby wants to empower the youth. But unlike others with the same goal, he uses hip-hop as the tool. Sebastien is the creator of the Urban Youth Empowerment Foundation, a Los Angeles organization created to address the education crisis affecting more than 50% of inner-city middle and high school students.
In an attempt to provide a new method for reaching at-risk students, the Urban Youth Empowerment Foundation offers several empowerment courses, including job training classes, teen parenting classes, and global awareness through hip-hop classes. (more…)
Mookie Jones has had quite an eventful beginning to his hip-hop career. Son of Oran “Juice” Jones, the first R&B artist ever signed to Def Jam Records and owner of the label’s first #1 album, Mookie grew up under the tutelage of hip-hop legends including his godfather Big Daddy Kane. Mookie won Roc-A-Fella’s “Roc The Mic” competition at age 15, and was crowned Houston’s freestyle champ after winning The Source Battle in 2004.
Last week, Mookie’s career took another leap when he was named winner of Scion’s “The Prospect” competition. As winner, he was handpicked to create an original track alongside super producer Hi-Tek, and a video produced by Scion. Luckily, we were able to catch up with Mookie just days before beginning work with Hi-Tek for this interview. (more…)
Peace. I came across a dope interview with Talib Kweli today on www.flow.tv. He makes some great points with clips from some of his greatest videos. Check it out below.
Take a walk down Broadway or swing past New York City’s Fat Beats Record Store on any given day, and you’re likely to see Creature outside selling CDs and passing out fliers. Later that night, go to any hip-hop show in the city, big or small, and you’ll probably run into him again.
Creature is the epitome of a DIY (Do It Yourself) hip-hop artist. After selling more than 12,000 copies of his debut album, “Never Say Die,” directly to fans in less than a year, Creature wrote a book about his experience in order to teach the art of independent entrepreneurship in hip-hop. (more…)
G-Wiz and Amani of Urbanscore have worked with some of the biggest names in hip-hop. G-Wiz got his start alongside RUN-DMC and Jam Master Jay, while Amani came up with Nu-Mark from Jurassic 5. They have a long-term relationship with Chuck D and Public Enemy, and were chosen to handle production for PE’s 20th anniversary project, “How You Sell Soul To A Soulless People Who Sold Their Soul???”
After recently finishing work on the Public Enemy album, which dropped today (August 7), G-Wiz and Amani went straight back into the studio to help J-5′s Soup with his upcoming solo project. Luckily, they were able to get a couple free minutes to answer some of our questions, and here’s what they had to say: (more…)
