Featured Hip-Hop

Featured hip-hop at Hip-Hop Linguistics. With so much content spread over so many hip-hop websites these days, it becomes difficult to differentiate between the music a website is truly recommending for it's visitors, and the tracks, videos and downloads they post just to keep up to date with what's new. That's why I created this featured section. Below you will find the featured hip-hop artist or artists of each week, which is basically the hip-hop that received the most plays in my iPod in the past seven days. Check out the featured artists below and click on the links to peep album reviews, quotable tracks and videos from those artists.

Artist of the Week: B.o.B

Looks like I got away from the underground this week by naming mainstream phenomenon B.o.B as the hip-hop artist of the week. But after actually sitting down and listening to dude’s music, I have realized why he’s become so popular. Luckily, for those stuck underground like me, B.o.B recently released “No Genre” – a FREE mixtape that I’ve been bumping nonstop for the past week.

B.o.B’s “No Genre” mixtape received by far the most plays in my iPod this week. Click the links below to check out some of his music.

  1. Album of the Week: “No Genre
  2. Video of the Week: The Watchers
  3. Quotable of the Week: Dr. Aden
  4. Track of the Week: Not Lost

Artists of the Week: Celph Titled & Buckwild

I’d like to give a big shout out to my homie Kirk – aka “The Captain” – for hollering at me out of nowhere to recommend Celph Titled & Buckwild’s new album “Nineteen Ninety Now.” I almost didn’t download this shit, because I thought I had grown tired of nineties era throwback albums. But in reality, I guess I just grew tired of WACK nineties era throwback albums.

Celph Titled & Buckwild received the most plays in my iPod this week. In fact, this is pretty much all I listened to all week. Click the links below to check out some of their music:

    1. Album of the Week: “Nineteen Ninety Now
    2. Video of the Week: Mad Ammo
    3. Quotable of the Week: I Could Write A Rhyme
    4. Track of the Week: Miss Those Days

      Artist of the Week: Eligh

Eligh became one of my favorite members of the Living Legends crew a couple years back when they dropped the “Classic” album. That album dropped right after I started HHL, and it was back when I was transcribing all the lyrics from a record before reviewing it.

While I was listening to “Classic,” I wrote down all my favorite verses to feature in the album review. And when I went back to read through them all, I realized that Eligh had some of my favorite verses from that album – which is saying a lot, since “Classic” is definitely a classic album in my mind, receiving a five star rating back in ’05. Ever since, I have been an apt follower of Eligh and the rest of the Living Legends crew.

So it was no surprise to me that the most played hip-hop album on my iPod this week was Eligh’s “Grey Crow.” Click the links below to check out some of Eligh’s music:

      1. Album of the Week: “Grey Crow
      2. Video of the Week: Miss Busdriver (Rachel)
      3. Quotable of the Week: When I’m A Dad
      4. Track of the Week: Love Ov My Life

Artists of the Week: 7L & Esoteric

Peace. I know it’s been a while since I posted anything, but I’ve been kinda hip-hopped out as of late. I feel like I spend so much time posting tracks, videos and free downloads for y’all that I don’t even get to listen to the music I love anymore, which is the reason HHL ever existed in the first place. Because of this, I’ve decided to change this site’s format – starting now.

I’m going back to old school – posting the hip-hop that I’m currently listening to, and featuring my favorite artist or artists of every week. The hip-hop that received the most rotations in my iPod in the past week is 7L & Esoteric, so that’s who I’m featuring this week. Click the links below to check out their music.

        1. Album of the Week:  “1212
        2. Video of the Week: Retrospects
        3. Quotable of the Week: I Hate Flying
