PEACE. Every year, Hip-Hop Linguistics creates two lists. One list contains the top hip-hop albums from major mainstream, underground and independent record labels. The other list contains the top hip-hop albums from minor independent labels and unsigned hip-hop artists. The first list contains artists you’ve likely heard of, while the second list contains artists you’ve probably not heard of.

In celebration of the MTV Brain Trust’s newest debate over the “Greatest Hip-Hop Groups of All Time,” I’ve decided to pick my top ten groups of all time with two or more MCs. Ten bucks says MTV doesn’t even mention half. Either way, check out the broadcast Sunday, March 4 on MTV2.

Alright, so I’m a liar. I honestly had the best intentions of picking my ten favorite underground hip-hop albums of 2006. However, I didn’t realize how difficult that would be.
There were so many great underground hip-hop albums released last year that I couldn’t pick just ten. Therefore, this list is best titled “The Fifteen Best Underground Hip-Hop Albums of 2006.” (more…)
Although my goal with HipHopLinguistics.com is to give underground and independent hip-hop a forum, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t like a lot of the hip-hop major record labels are putting out these days.
