If you’ve ever been anywhere on Flatbush Avenue, from the river to the ocean, you’re probably familiar with dollar vans. Dollar Van Demos showcases NYC musicians, emcees and comedians while riding inside a dollar van somewhere in Brooklyn. This episode shows iLLspoKinn, one of my favorite local emcees and head of the hip-hop band Spokinn Movement, performing his track Make It.

I normally don’t post these YouTube mp3 tracks. But I’ve been waiting to hit y’all with some more Spokinn Movement since they dropped “60 Min Spin Cycle” a couple years back – and this is all I’ve been sent to date. Flows is a track from an NYC compilation album the group was a part of a while back called “NYC Subway: Songs from the Underground.” Spokinn Movement has another album dropping in early 2010.

This is a brand new video for Run Amok, one of my favorite tracks from the FreeIceCream.net crew, which gives all their music away for FREE download here. Run Amok features underground NYC emcees Kats, Domer and iLLspoKinN.

Illspokinn is the frontman for Spokinn Movement, one of my favorite NYC underground hip-hop groups. Their ‘06 album “60 Min. Spin Cycle” is still on my regular rotation after two years. Keep your eyes open for a new album dropping this year …

Spokinn Movement “60 Min. Spin Cycle” Album Review
This weekend I traveled up to the beautiful mountain town of Telluride, CO for the second time in as many months to check out another one of their music festivals: The Blues and Brews Festival. Basically, a bunch of people go to the mountains every September for three days to listen to blues music while sampling beer from over fifty national breweries. It’s a great time in some of our country’s most beautiful surroundings. (more…)

For those of you who live in New York City, I recently stumbled upon a super dope weekly hip-hop show that I highly recommend checking out. It takes place Monday nights at Sin Sin (The Leopard Lounge), located at 248 E. 5th Street in East Village. This show was recommended by two lovely ladies, Miss Sara and Miss Susan.

Although I was told the show consisted of spoken word performances, which in my mind means poetry, it is actually a weekly freestyle session put on by NYC’s own Spokinn Movement. Around 11 p.m. every Monday night, a live band takes the stage with impressive frontman and lyricist iLLsPoKinN. (more…)
