FREE Download: Business Casual Mixtape

Business Casual

I just got around to listening to this mixtape over the weekend, and now I’m glad I did. Business Casual is a group composed of some of my favorite of the NYC underground, including the Metermaids, Kats, Domer and brokeMC. This mixtape is basically those emcees spitting over a bunch of indie rock remixes mixed by Domer. Domer remixes tracks from indie rock sensations like Spoon, MGMT, the Black Lips and Vampire Weekend. Click below to download the mixtape for FREE!

Quotable of the Week: Metermaids “Thinking About Jacksonville”

    Metermaids

This week’s underground hip-hop quotable of the week is the Metermaids’ Thinking About Jacksonville. This track is from the group’s new mixtape “Nightlife in Illinoise” – which you can AND SHOULD download for FREE here. “Nightlife in Illinoise” is made up of remixes from the Metermaids’ spectacular 2008 album “Nightlife” and Sufjan’s Stevens’ “Illinoise,” and Thinking About Jacksonville is the remix of Think About It, which is one of my favorite tracks from the album.

      Nightlife in Illinoise

This dropped a couple weeks ago, but I just got around to bumping it last night. “Nightlife in Illinoise” is a remix project blending the Metermaids’ “Nightlife,” one of my favorite albums of 2008, and Sufjan’s Stevens’ “Illinoise.” Dope remixes of some of my favorite tracks – kinda Grey-Album-ish in terms of direction. Metermaids “Nightlife” Album Review
The Metermaids are made up of two emcees, Sentence and Swell, who give one of the best live performances in the NYC underground. The past couple of years, I’ve constantly found myself at shows they’ve opened – and have been so impressed that I’ve now become a regular at shows they’re headlining as well. So when I got my hands on their album “Nightlife,” I just knew it was going to be dope. (more…)

Underground Track of the Week: Metermaids “Come Home”

            Metermaids

This week’s underground hip-hop track of the week is Come Home by the Metermaids. This has become my favorite track from the duo’s album “Nightlife,” which is next up on my stack of reviews. These cats got a real uniquely-positive vibe, and I definitely recommend peeping their album. Click below to listen to the track:

Metermaids & Camp Lo “Turn It Up” Live

Just stumbled across this video of the Metermaids and Camp Lo performing last week’s underground track of the week, Turn It Up, which is off the Metermaids’ new album “Nightlife.” And like I said last time, a review is coming eventually!

Underground Track of the Week: Metermaids feat. Camp Lo “Turn It Up”

                Metermaids

This week’s underground hip-hop track of the week is Turn It Up by the Metermaids – a local NYC crew that has a tendency to make the crowd move at shows. The track features the legendary Camp Lo and is my favorite song from the Metermaids’ new album “Nightlife,” which has a review coming soon! In the meantime, check out Turn It Up below:
