This is a brand new video from the Metermaids – one of my favorite local underground hip-hop groups. Blackout Baby is a track from the duo’s spectacular EP “Smash Smash Bang” – which you can and should download for FREE here. If you like this, check out another dope track from the EP – former HHL quotable of the week Matchbooks.
“Smash Smash Bang” is a brand new five-track EP by the Metermaids, one of my favorite local underground hip-hop groups. They dropped the album a couple weeks ago, during which we featured Matchbooks as HHL track of the week. Now, though their affiliation with Strange Famous Records, the Metermaids are now offering a FREE download of their new album. Click below to download the Metermaids’ “Smash Smash Bang” for FREE:
My homie was complaining the other day about how people on the subway are so detached. They just read their newspapers or listen to their iPods and avoid everyone else. Nobody talks anymore, and he thinks it’s a symbol of what’s wrong with New York.
The Metermaids’ new song Matchbooks made me think of that this morning as I was (ironically) listening to my iPod on the train, and the first verse states, Â ”I rode the train like a ghost in the graveyard.” After that, I listened to this song like 10 times in a row. Matchbooks is a track by one of my favorite local hip-hop groups the Metermaids, from their new album “Smash Smash Bang.” Click below to listen:

Brand new video from NYC hip-hop group the Metermaids, who’s album “Nightlife” was one of my favorites of 2008. If you like this, peep their video for Feel Alive, and check out former HHL track of the week Come Home. The group is currently offering Turn The Lights Out for free download here.
Brand new video for Feel Alive, a track from the Metermaids dope album “NightLife.” This video is being released in conjunction with the group’s new Live EP, which you can download for FREE here.
I just got around to listening to this mixtape over the weekend, and now I’m glad I did. Business Casual is a group composed of some of my favorite of the NYC underground, including the Metermaids, Kats, Domer and brokeMC. This mixtape is basically those emcees spitting over a bunch of indie rock remixes mixed by Domer. Domer remixes tracks from indie rock sensations like Spoon, MGMT, the Black Lips and Vampire Weekend. Click below to download the mixtape for FREE!
This week’s underground hip-hop quotable of the week is the Metermaids’ Thinking About Jacksonville. This track is from the group’s new mixtape “Nightlife in Illinoise” – which you can AND SHOULD download for FREE here. “Nightlife in Illinoise” is made up of remixes from the Metermaids’ spectacular 2008 album “Nightlife” and Sufjan’s Stevens’ “Illinoise,” and Thinking About Jacksonville is the remix of Think About It, which is one of my favorite tracks from the album.

This dropped a couple weeks ago, but I just got around to bumping it last night. “Nightlife in Illinoise” is a remix project blending the Metermaids’ “Nightlife,” one of my favorite albums of 2008, and Sufjan’s Stevens’ “Illinoise.” Dope remixes of some of my favorite tracks – kinda Grey-Album-ish in terms of direction. Metermaids “Nightlife” Album Review
The Metermaids are made up of two emcees, Sentence and Swell, who give one of the best live performances in the NYC underground. The past couple of years, I’ve constantly found myself at shows they’ve opened – and have been so impressed that I’ve now become a regular at shows they’re headlining as well. So when I got my hands on their album “Nightlife,” I just knew it was going to be dope. (more…)
