Great interview with KRS-One that took place on 9/12/2008 during SMT Studios’ Now or Never 2008 benefit concert for dying September 11th first responders. KRS discusses the plight of the rescue workers, what happened on 9/11, and his attitude towards Hip-Hop and social consciousness. From Blip.tv.
Hip Hop activist and rap legend KRS One is issuing a call to action from DJ’s nationwide to join and participate in the upcoming Million DJ March, by becoming directly involved himself. Rap MC KRS-One’s legendary contributions to the evolution of Hip Hop and well-documented work with his Stop the Violence Movement, coupled with the fact that he began his own career as a DJ, make him the perfect spokesperson for this groundbreaking event.
“I am a DJ. I started my career as a DJ and a collector of records.” says the NY hip hop MC. “The Million DJ March speaks to the longevity of the DJ community. If deejaying is going to survive in to the future, we are going to have to take it a little more seriously than just a party past time.” (more…)

And now BET has announced that KRS-One will receive the “I Am Hip-Hop Award.” I guess they did this last year too, and gave Grandmaster Flash the award.
I SEE YOU BET! Check out the nice things they said about KRS-One below: (more…)
Traditional hip-hop lyrics about guns, women and homophobia are about to face a new competitor in the race for young Americans’ hearts and minds.
Princeton religious professor Cornel West has released an album designed to counter rap’s negative image, with major names like KRS-One and Levert participating.
“We need to respectfully challenge [rappers] on the issues of misogyny and homophobia,” says West. “You can hear that on the album, too. Quit bashing gay brothers and lesbian sisters. Quit this domestic violence.” (more…)
