Peace. I know it’s been a while since I posted anything, but I’ve been kinda hip-hopped out as of late. I feel like I spend so much time posting tracks, videos and free downloads for y’all that I don’t even get to listen to the music I love anymore, which is the reason HHL ever existed in the first place. Because of this, I’ve decided to change this site’s format – starting now.
I’m going back to old school – posting the hip-hop that I’m currently listening to, and featuring my favorite artist or artists of every week. The hip-hop that received the most rotations in my iPod in the past week is 7L & Esoteric, so that’s who I’m featuring this week. Click the links below to check out their music.
I started cracking up the minute I heard this, because I agree with pretty much everything Esoteric says on I Hate Flying. The song, which features a hilarious story about a bad airplane experience, stands out as one of the best tracks on 7L & Esoteric’s “1212.” 7L’s chorus samples lyrics from Jay-Z’s Ignorant Shit, a track from his “American Gangster” album, while Esoteric’s three verses manage to cover everything we all hate about flying. 7L & Esoteric “1212″ Album Review
I’ve been waiting for 7L & Esoteric to drop another album since they released “A New Dope” back in 2006 – which became one of my favorite albums of that year due to it’s innovative experimentation with a new brand of electro hip-hop. The duo’s latest effort, “1212″ shows them going back to a more strictly hip-hop sound, but is no less innovative or enjoyable an album. In fact, 7L & Esoteric’s “1212″ will easily make my top ten of 2010 list, and is the first hip-hop album I’ve really enjoyed in the past couple of months. (more…)
