“This Is The Life” Documentary Excerpt

Looking forward to catching the whole DVD. The “This Is The Life” Documentary chronicles “The Good Life” emcees, Project Blowed, the alternative music movement they developed, and their worldwide influence on the art form. “This Is The Life” will be released on May 5.

    This is Del’s 7th studio album, and following the success of his 2008 release “The Eleventh Hour” – coupled with an attempt to ease music fans’ economic woes – I guess dude decided to just give this one away for FREE.         Track of the Week: Grouch & Eligh “Comin’ Up”

        This week’s hip-hop quotable track of the week is Comin’ Up featuring verses by Grouch, Eligh and guest emcee Mistah F.A.B. I have been bumping Grouch & Eligh’s “Say G&E!” nonstop this week, and this is one of the tracks that keeps getting replayed in my iPod.             His new album is called “Yes!,” but K-os could just as easily have called it “Home!,” because that’s where the rapper and singer has been headed for at least a year: Home to hip hop, and home to Vancouver, a city he had never lived in but that suddenly last summer revealed a claim on him that he couldn’t refuse.               Washington Hip-Hop After School Program Provides Positive Movement

              Tacoma, WA – From an open doorway on Tacoma’s Pacific Avenue comes an insistent hip-hop beat. In the darkened interior of the club, a circle of teenagers watches as each takes a breakdancing solo. In other rooms kids are sketching, spinning turntables and listening to headphones with a fierce focus. It’s all part of a Saturday morning L.I.F.E. class, run by local hip-hop organization Fab-5 – and for some of these teenagers, it’s turning their lives around. (more…)

                Doom “Microwave Mayonaisse” Video

                Microwave Mayonaisse, which is listed on the album as Microwave Mayo, is one of a handful of dope tracks from Doom’s brand new album “Born Like This.” I just picked it up, and shit is bumping for real. This is apparently a fan video.

                    Scholarship Winner Hopes ‘Hip-Hop’ Will Benefit Local Youth

                     

                    Northfield, MN – St. Olaf student Andrew Wilson ‘11 has been named a Jay and Rose Phillips Family Foundation Scholar for 2009-10 and 2010-11. Wilson was one of only six private college students selected this year to receive the $15,650 scholarship that he will use to launch a community outreach project titled “Hip-Hop Anonymous.” (more…)
