Track of the Week: Cymarshall Law “Out of the Rain”

    Cymarshall Law

This week’s underground hip-hop track of the week is Cymarshall Law and Mr. Joeker’s Out of the Rain featuring Mary Lou on the chorus. This song is one of very many dope tracks from Cymarshal Law and Mr. Joeker’s “Hip-Hop in the Soul” – which I’ve been bumping nonstop lately. Out of the Rain is a inspirational feel-good track, composed of three verses about people who overcame hardshops to find happiness and success. Click below to listen:

And be sure to follow along with the lyrics after the break. (more…)

Quotable of the Week: Metermaids “Thinking About Jacksonville”

      Metermaids

This week’s underground hip-hop quotable of the week is the Metermaids’ Thinking About Jacksonville. This track is from the group’s new mixtape “Nightlife in Illinoise” – which you can AND SHOULD download for FREE here. “Nightlife in Illinoise” is made up of remixes from the Metermaids’ spectacular 2008 album “Nightlife” and Sufjan’s Stevens’ “Illinoise,” and Thinking About Jacksonville is the remix of Think About It, which is one of my favorite tracks from the album.

Mos Def “Life In Marvelous Times” Video

This is a fan made video for Mos’ hit track Life In Marvelous Times, the first single from his upcoming album “The Ecstatic.” Apparently, Mos picked this fan video to be the song’s official video – due to how the images perfectly match up with his lyrics.

Joseph PenrodDetroit, MI - Joseph Penrod, a Commerce Township kindergartener, possesses a ravenous appetite and a spirited love of soccer and dancing. His mother, Marissa Penrod, is determined to keep it that way. In the year since Joseph was diagnosed with a form of muscular dystrophy, a degenerative disease that could rob him of his mobility, Penrod has become a fierce advocate for her son — and an overnight concert promoter.

After a chance meeting, Penrod and local hip-hop artist Hush came up with the idea of a concert to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Penrod hopes to sell 2,200 tickets to the Feb. 5 show at downtown Detroit’s Fillmore Theatre. In addition to Hush, the benefit will feature rhythm and blues band Hot Sauce and Southern rocker JoCaine. (more…)

Grandmaster Flash PostersWhenever Victor Arzu approaches the corner of East 169th Street and Franklin Avenue in his grandmother’s neighborhood, Morrisania, in the South Bronx, he usually takes a moment to check out some posters on a wall depicting the hip-hop artist Grandmaster Flash.
