      Lupe’s Fiasco – Editorial

Lupe FiascoAhh, the VH1 Hip-Hop Honors show. Overall great, but the many comments about Lupe Fiasco’s slip up while performing on the show is becoming ridiculous. For those who do not know, yes, Lupe forgot a piece of the lyrics to Electric Relaxation, a classic A Tribe Called Quest (ATCQ) track from the early 90’s. Yes, he took defense to many comments, yes, there has been a bunch of he-say-she-say, and yes fans and various hip-hop websites have been trying to execute him since. (more…)

Cornel West “Never Forget: A Journey of Revelations” Album Review
I’ve been looking forward to this album for quite some time now. Dr. Cornel West is one of those people I could just sit and listen to all day. I believe Dr. West is the premiere scholar, thinker and philosopher of our time – and the best older representative the hip-hop generation can currently claim. I agree with pretty much everything he’s ever written or said, and I expected his hip-hop album to be no different. (more…)

              Kats “Almost Fameless” Album Review
I was given this album by the editor and told to review it. He saw Kats perform live at some show in NYC, and said, word for word, that “he put on a great show.” He said Kats was a good live performer whose entertaining style of comical hip-hop had him cracking up for the majority of the performance. That’s our editor for you: He always hits local shows to unwind, drinks a couple beers and puffs on some of that wacky tabacky – then ends up thinking every performer he sees is amazing. This is your brain on drugs, I guess. (more…)

Hip-hop duo brings different message to schools

FigureheadsSheboygan, WI – C.J. Dimoff really enjoys listening to his Figureheads hip-hop CD. So when he found out they were performing at James Madison Elementary School on Wednesday, where C.J.’s a fifth-grader, he was really excited.

“They tell kids, if you hear other people like talking mean to other kids, go up there and stand up for them and say ‘Knock that off. It’s not right to treat other kids that way,’” said C.J., 10. “If you treat (people) that way, then they will do the same to you.”

Five years ago, Figureheads — Jeremy Bryan, 29, and Greg Marshall, 27, both of Milwaukee — took their hip-hop music from the underground scene in Milwaukee to classrooms in Wisconsin and several cities across the country. (more…)
