Ohene “Inner City Soul” Album Review
I’m calling it now … independent album of the year goes to Rahm Nation’s Ohene! Ohene’s “Inner City Soul” is easily one of my favorite hip-hop albums of 2007 thus far, underground or mainstream, and is a masterpiece of poetic, lyrical and productive proportions. Every track on this album is dope; every verse is quotable; every song is both intellectually and socially significant. I just can’t stop listening to this album, and I guarantee that most fans of meaningful conscious hip-hop will feel the same. (more…)

K Banger “Truth Be Told” Album Review
One thing that I have learned since my entrance into this industry is in order to be successful, you must possess talent, a love for what you do, creative consistency, humbleness, but more importantly you must know your purpose for being in the game. Many people create music to simply compete with or to be like other artists instead of creating music because that’s what they love to do. On Truth Be Told, K Banger presents himself with much talent as a lyricist, but I am unsure on his direction, his modesty and if he fully knows his purpose in the game. (more…)

Side-FX “Creative Control” Album Review
I meet many gifted people on a regular basis; emcees, producers, poets, authors and one thing that I notice about at least 80% of them is that they don’t have a consistent focus. They lack the ability to stay focused on the ultimate goal they have in their heart. Instead they bounce back in forth between changing their styles, their messages; their production to fit only what the public wants to hear; that is when music loses its soul. As creative as they are, they lack control of their craft, but one cat doesn’t, and that’s Side F-X. (more…)

C.O.N.C.E.P.T. “In The Moment” Album Review
Well, it’s official. The Mindspray Crew is officially my favorite local New York City conglomeration of dope emcees. Every emcee coming out of Mindspray is unique and groundbreaking, as Domer’s “Work With Me” and brokeMC’s “Make It Better” have already earned feature spots on our website this year. And now C.O.N.C.E.P.T. has solidified their position with what is turning out to be one of my favorite indie hip-hop releases of the year thus far, “In The Moment.” (more…)

South Hill Productions “Soul Sessions Vol. 1″ Album Review
I went to a poetry slam not long ago where not only were there talented poets present, but there were also emcees and instrumentalists who were showcased as well. What I found impressive about the event was how well planned it was and how the event came together and flowed flawlessly from beginning to end. This same feeling is present when I listen to the instrumental presentation of SouthHill Productions on Soul Sessions Vol. 1. (more…)
