The Coup “Pick A Bigger Weapon” Album Review
I’ve always been a big fan of The Coup. I like the way front man Boots Riley flows, especially how he promotes a revolutionary mind state within entertaining and often funny stories. I’m always interested in what he has to say. And although some of those tough guy misogynist rap fans (c’mon, we all know a couple) clown on me for this, I think Pam the Funkstress makes some super dope beats and practices expert turntablism. She is one of my favorite hip-hop producers around today. (more…)

Soul Position “Things Go Better With RJ and Al” Album Review
I had a recent run in with my cell phone company, Cingular. My bill for the month of March was a little under $300! See, once I go over my minutes, these punks charge me forty cents a minute for the rest of the billing cycle. Therefore, I decided to try to cut back on my calls. For the entire month of April, I screened every call I took and was confident that I did not exceed my limits. When the bill arrived, Cingular claimed that I owed them $180 for that month. Damn, man … does anyone else think this is a ridiculous price to pay for a measly 600 minutes of airtime? (more…)

Although I believe I was born aspired to be an advocate of change and growth, and feel I have held strong to this aspiration in the short time I’ve lived, I’ve never considered myself a revolutionary. Through the education many of us receive in this country’s often inadequate public school systems, we are taught that a revolutionary, at least to some extent, believes in rapid, abrupt and often violent change, even if it takes his life. Soul 2020 “Introducing Mike & Ike” Album Review
I’ve passed up a lot of opportunities in my life. Some have revolved around jobs that I wasn’t ready to take. Some have revolved around places I wasn’t ready to move to.
